SEASON 4 EPISODE 8: ATTRACTION

It’s a bumper episode as we have a very special guest this week! We are joined by friend of the Pod (and long-time friend of Jenn D) Bethany Actually as we dive into chapters 29-32 through the theme of attraction. It’s a heady thing when you’re really into someone, and we attempt to unpack all the feelings that come from young love - and love in general, including the love you have for your friends and family.

In this section, Cath and Wren mend some fences, Art Avery lays down some ground rules and Levi finally gets to entertain Cath on his antique couch.

This episode was recorded on 28 August 2021.

Show notes

First things first, you can find Bethany on Tumblr here.

Read more here about the Susquehannock people.

Pfiiiiizer darling - it’s a thing. We love vaccines. Here is a good breakdown from the NHS about why vaccines are safe and important, and more from WHO about all the Covid-19 vaccines here.

Strawberry cake recipe! So good.

Reminder, Tom Felton was the face inspiration for Levi.

That E.L. Doctorow quote Jenn D mentions:

Writing is like driving at night in the fog. You can only see as far as your headlights, but you can make the whole trip that way.
— Writers At Work: The Paris Review Interviews

Jen V has yet another breakdown about the Simon Snow trilogy. It’s just a lot okay!

Mark Ruffalo as Art Avery face inspo? Heck.

Veronica Mars (so good) - “The hero is the one that stays and the villain is the one that splits.”

We are once again asking you to watch Miracle Workers.

Friendly reminder from Mindy:

Jack Reacher height discourse - soz not soz Tom!

Glow - an underrated show.

Jen V would love the ability to download things straight into her brain, Matrix style.

Aziraphale and Crowley appreciation - check out Good Omens, the book and the show.

Hitchhiker’s guide to the galaxy - a classic.

Also a lot of love for Ted Lasso this episode - we just think it’s neat!

And yep - you heard right. We’ll be reading The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater for season 5. We’ll share the themes soon, so keep an eye out!

We would like to acknowledge the traditional owners of the land where this episode was recorded - the Guringai and Darug people and tangata whenua of Te Whanganui-a-Tara, as well as the Susquehannock/Conestoga, Seneca and the Haudenosaunee confederacy, Leni Lenape, and Shawnee Nations.

Our intro and outro music is by the excellent Scott Buckley. Check him out here.
